Boy with a basket of fruit, c.1593, is a painting generally ascribed to italian baroque master michelangelo merisi da caravaggio, currently in the galleria borghese, rome. It was in the cavalier's studio, that, according to giovanni pietro bellori, caravaggio learnt "to paint flowers and fruit so well imitated that everybody came to. Red, black, and white grapes, apples, pears, apricots, figs bursting open, pomegranates, and grape, pear. The model for the boy in painting was caravaggio's good friend mario minniti, who was 16 at the time, and who would serve as one of his models many times in the future... The painter, to be released, donated his collection of paintings to the apostolic chamber and pope paul v gave it.
